This one tastes like vacation. It also happens to be doing something.
What's In It
- 1 cup frozen mango
- ½ cup frozen pineapple
- 1 cup coconut water
- handful of ice
- 1 serving liquid iron
Blend until smooth. Drink it before your coffee/tea/matcha. (Coffee blocks iron absorption — I learned that the hard way.)
Why This Actually Works
Mango and pineapple are both high in vitamin C. Vitamin C converts iron into a form your body can actually absorb. So the liquid iron you're adding isn't just floating around doing nothing — it's getting pulled in.
Coconut water keeps it from tasting like a supplement. The frozen fruit keeps it cold enough that you don't taste the iron at all.
That's it. That's the whole science.
A Note on the Liquid Iron
Not all liquid iron is the same. Most of the cheap ones use ferrous sulfate — which works, but causes nausea and constipation, especially on an empty stomach. Look for chelated iron (ferrous bisglycinate) if you can. It's easier on your stomach and absorbs better.
We use Ferrochel® in Ferra for the same reason.
Who This Is For
If you're iron deficient and you've been told to "just eat more steak" — this is a gentler entry point. It's not a replacement for a real iron strategy, but it's a good daily habit while you figure out the rest.
If your ferritin is fine and you just want a good smoothie: also valid.
Ferra is high-iron rigatoni with a vitamin C sauce, built for iron-deficient women. Join the waitlist at eatferra.com.
